Netherlands-Hong Kong: new exchange programme

On 1 January 2019, the Netherlands and Hong Kong started an international exchange programme.The exchange programme will last two years. As of 1 January 2019, young persons from Hong Kong between 18 and 30 years old can get to know to the Dutch culture on a working holiday of up to one year.
The Hong Kong participants in the Working Holiday Program (WHP) may join a short course and carry out paid work on an incidental basis to support their holiday financially. They do not need to have a work permit for foreign nationals (TWV).

Conditions
● Up to 12 consecutive weeks of work for the same employer;
● Spreading the number of hours over a period longer than 12 weeks is not permitted;
● After working for the same employer for 12 weeks, the young person on exchange may work 12 consecutive weeks for a different employer.

Annually, up to 100 young persons from Hong Kong may participate in the programme. The procedure is started by filing for an MVV-TEV (a temporary provisional residence permit through the entry and residence procedure) with the Consulate General in Hong Kong.

Dutch young persons who wish to participate in this programme in Hong Kong may apply to the Chinese embassy or Chinees Consulate General in the Netherlands or the Immigration Service in Hong Kong.
